Bjørn and Knut have cooperated for several years with various types of fish farm tanks. It became evident that good fish welfare could only be secured by controlling all aspects of the water in the fish farm tank. Closed tanks with pumps and water intake of at least 20 m depths are required.
A floating tank made of concrete has been developed to secure long lifetime of the tank and safe operating conditions for the personnel onboard the tank or basin. The tank has been given a structural form such that it will be kept floating also in the unlikely event of a ship running directly into the tank.
The tank is equipped with a sliding wall which is used for careful handling of fish. A comprehensive system to analyse, control and secure good water quality, systems to guaranty continuous power supply, and various installations to have top health and environmental management systems.
